LAGAWE, Ifugao, Jan.2 (PIA) -- The Christmas and New Year celebrations in this province were generally peaceful and no major disturbances were reported except for some vehicular accidents and isolated mauling incidents.
Provincial Police Director Senior Superintendent Laurence Mombael said that as early as the second week of December, they already posted police personnel augmented by newly graduated police officers and trainees to the different municipalities of the province to help maintain peace and order and protect the people celebrate the yuletide season.
He said that he also assigned many of his men in busy areas of the province to maintain orderly traffic for travelers and vehicles passing through the national highways of Ifugao.
Despite these efforts, however, there were still reported cases of vehicular accidents and mauling incidents due to drunkenness but are considered as minor and inevitable occurrences.
On Christmas Day, there were 13 vehicular accidents reported in Kiangan, Lamut, Lagawe, Alfonso Lista, Banaue and Hingyon while there were 14 cases of mauling incidents in the province
During the celebration of New Year, there were 13 vehicular accidents reported and 12 mauling incidents all over the province.
There were only three injured with firecrackers during the Christmas and new year revelry.
Meanwhile, the Ifugao Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported that there were several people killed during the celebration of the yuletide season not because of firecrackers or violence but because of stroke due to hypertension.
Ambrocio Dulnuan said that in Kiangan alone there were 3 who were reported dead because of stroke and 2 in Banaue but they are still gathering and confirming more reports since they receive information that many more died due to high blood pressure from the other municipalities.(DBC/PIA-Ifugao)
