2 die, 3 hurt in Ifugao vehicular accident

LAMUT, Ifugao – Two government employees died while three others were injured after the driver lost control of their speeding pickup along the national road at sitio Santa Fe, barangay Hapid here around 7:30 pm Wednesday.
Superintendent Cherry Fajardo, public information officer of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera, identified the fatalities as Roselyn Malingan, 28,  married, teacher at Ifugao State University (IFSU), Nayon, Lamut, Ifugao;  Wrechelle Hoggang Valenciano, 33, married, secretary of the Mayor’s Office, Lamut, Ifugao.

On the other hand, she identified the 2 wounded passengers as Lalaine Canlas Malingan, 24, single, RHU Lamut employee, sustained head and leg injuries and was brought to PLT Hospital, Bascaran, Solano, Nueva, Vizcaya; Willaine Dango Tayaban, 24, single, IFSU employee, was brought to Dela Cruz Medical Clinic, Poblacion West, Lamut, Ifugao for abrasions; Pelita Talaro Dango, 55, married, and a resident of the Lamut, Ifugao was unhurt.
Initial investigation disclosed that said driver who was named as Esteban Bulahao Bagiw, 45, married, Oceana Gold Corp. employee, and a resident of Hapid, Lamut, Ifugao came from Solano, Nueva Vizcaya heading towards Hapid, Lamut, Ifugao when he came across and fetched five passengers who were waiting for a ride to Hapid at the HAPTODA terminal located in Poblacion East, Lamut, Ifugao. Upon reaching the place of incident the driver lost control of the vehicle then hit an elevated portion of the road causing the vehicle to turn upside down.
Responding police operatives rushed the injured passengers to the different hospitals but two of them died due to serious head injuries caused by the incident.
The driver who was unhurt is now under the custody of Lamut MPS. The case is still under investigation. He stands to face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide, multiple serious physical injuries and damage to property before the Ifugao provincial prosecutor’s office.
