ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao, April 20 (PIA) -- The Local Government Unit (LGU) here has created the municipal organic agriculture committee (MOAC) for the promotion of the organic agriculture program of the municipality.
This is in support to the Organic Agriculture Act of the national government signed in 2010 for the development of a comprehensive program through the promotion and commercialization of organic farming practices.
The MOAC is chaired by Mayor Glenn Prudenciano and the municipal agriculturist as vice-chairman with heads of municipal and national offices and representatives from the various non-government organizations (NGOs) in the municipality as members.
The committee is tasked to formulate policies, programs and projects to develop and promote agriculture production, processing and trade. It will also oversee the implementation of the organic and agriculture program and to identify sources of financing to implement organic agriculture for the benefits of all stakeholders in the municipality.
“The MOAC will monitor and evaluate the implementation of the organic agriculture program of the LGU and coordinate with any government agencies and NGOs to carry out and implement the said program,” Prudenciano said.
A technical working group composed of representatives designated by the members would also be organized to determine and formulate plans to address the gaps in the agricultural program. (JDP/MBL-PIA CAR, Ifugao)
