Canadian family donates Ifugao nipa hut replica to PH consulate

MANILA – A Canadian family has donated to the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver a replica of an Ifugao nipa
hut they bought as souvenir six years ago from the Banaue Rice Terraces.
James and Marnie Stewart said their visit to the Philippines composed of trips to Donsol, Sorsogon, Puerto Princesa, El NIdo, and then up north to the Banaue Rice Terraces.
With the help of a local guide, the couple embarked on a week-long trek to the rice terraces, passing through Ifugao villages.

Ifugao State University to open new campus in 2015

AGUINALDO, Ifugao Dec. 11 (PIA) - - With the aim of delivering quality education at the doorsteps of the public, the Ifugao State University is set to open a new campus in this municipality next year.
IFSU President Dr. Serafin L. Ngohayon announced in a stakeholders meeting that 2015 is the most opportune time to open Aguinaldo Campus   given the  active support of the local government unit (LGU), provincial government and national leadership.
“I  want to fulfill the pledge we made to the people of Aguinaldo of opening an IFSU campus in the municipality,” he added.

CHARMP worker perished,3 others injured in landslide in Ifugao town

HUNGDUAN, Ifugao, Dec. 11 (PIA)- - A worker of the Cordillera Highland Agricultural Resources Management Program (CHARMP) perished while three others  were injured when they were hit by a landslide as they  were hiking along a horse trail from Barangay Lubo-ong this municipality last December 3.
Report from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO)  identified the fatality as  Elizabeth Bulayo, 40,  of Namulditan, Hingyon, Ifugao.  The injured are Jonalyn Cabbigat, 29 , of Cababuyan, Hingyon; Irinea Laurel, and Jocelyn Bahatan, both  of Hungduan.
The four(2 from CHARMP,  one from Department of Education and one from the Hungduan Municipal Agriculture Office) were  on their way  back to Poblacion, Hungduan from Barangay Lubo-ong after monitoring and inspecting some  CHARMP projects in the  area  when a landslide suddenly occurred and hit them at 6:30 PM of Dec. 3.
The survivors notified the MDRRMO and the local government unit  who  immediately responded together with members of the Municipal Police Station, the Barangay Disaster Council of Lubo-ong, barangay health workers and  staff from the Municipal Health Office.( DBC- PIA CAR, Ifugao)

Ifugao Wrestling Team shines in Batang Pinoy - Luzon

IFUGAO grapplers lived up to expectations as they scored top honors in the wrestling event of the recently held 2014 Batang Pinoy Luzon Games in Naga City.
The Cordillera based athletes took the competition by storm as they put in tow four gold, three silver, and one bronze at the close of the national sports competition backed by the Philippine Olympic Committee and Philippine Sports Commission.
Arselyn Battatong (44kgs), Lovelyn Bandao (48kgs), Clarizza Mae Hagitan (56kgs) powered the Ifugao team after sweeping all gold medals in the secondary girls division.
In the elementary division, Maricca Hagitan copped the top spot in the girl’s 40-kilogram bulingit category while teammate Dan Gayuchan bagged a bronze medal from the bulingit boy’s 35-kilogram contest.Bless Napiloy (52kgs) and Annie Gumadol (48kgs) settled with a modest second honors finishes.

IFUGAO grapplers are keen on staging another dominant performance as they set higher goals for the upcoming 2014 Batang Pinoy-Luzon Leg slated November 11-15 at the Metro Naga Sports Complex in Naga City.
With just weeks of preparations left before the national sports contest, Hungduan based wrestlers gear up as they chase for a glorious outing in the grassroots sports competition backed by the Philippine Olympic Committee and Philippine Sports Commission.
Hungduan wrestling team coach and manager Marilyn Buyucan told Sun.Star Baguio the Hungduan Wrestling Team is all set for the Luzon qualifying leg of Batang Pinoy this year.
“We are setting to keep the children focused, we want to highlight the competition with a lot of successful performances the same as we did last year,” Buyucan said.

6 killed, 3 wounded in Ifugao clash

CAMP MELCHOR F. DELA CRUZ, Gamu, Isabela – Four New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and two soldiers were killed while three other Army troopers, including a junior officer, were wounded in a gun battle at Sitio Landing, Barangay Camandag in Asipulo, Ifugao province, Tuesday morning.

Captain Jefferson Somera, the civil military officer of the Army’s 54th Infantry Batallion, identified one of the four dead rebels as Joel Botingwon, a member of the NPA operating in Ifugao and resident of Sitio Hikot, Barangay Camandag.
Somera identified the killed soldiers as Private First Class (Pfc.) James C. En-ale of Tadian, Mountain Province, and Pfc. Mark Anthony Padtu of Paniqui, Tarlac.
Wounded were First Lieutenant Roland M. Carinan, Pfcs. John Ryl Discaya and Raphy Anongos, all members of the Army’s 54th Infantry Battalion.

Ifugao officials sued over P3M fertilizer fund scam

MANILA - The Office of the Ombudsman has found probable cause to file criminal charges against officials of the municipality of Hingyon, Ifugao for the irregular procurement of P3.25 million worth of fertilizers in 2004.
Former Mayor Alex Kindipan, Municipal Teasurer Henry Gano, and Municipal Accountant Maria Nilda Deloy were charged for violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act as well as the Government Procurement Reform Act.

IFSU prexy gets fresh mandate

LAMUT, Ifugao – Ifugao State University incumbent president Serafin Ngohayon took his oath for another four-year term recently.
Ngohayon was sworn into office by Commission on Higher Education Chair Patricia Licuanan last week after the IFSU Board of Regents unanimously voted to give him a second term as university president.
He was appointed and sworn into office on Dec. 14, 2009 as IFSU’s first president by virtue of Section 9 of Republic Act 9720.
With the new term, Ngohayon vowed to continue leading the university towards becoming a center of development and excellence and an internationally recognized state university and college level 4.
