LAMUT, Ifugao, Dec. 27(PIA) -- The Ifugao State University (IFSU) aims to improve its standing as a higher education institution in line with its vision to become Academic Center of Excellence (COE).
IFSU president Dr. Serafin Ngohayon, said that IFSU at present ranks number 66 among the 110 State Universities and Colleges (SUC) in the country and ranked number 2 in the Cordillera region.

COE Concept and Controversy
This is the result of the Normative Financing Scheme Report (NFSR) issued by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED),” Ngohayon said as he encouraged concerned IFSU officials to prepare the NFSR and submit it on time as this will determine the allocation of government subsidy for each SUC.
Last December 1 – 3, survey teams from the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines (AACCUP) conducted the Accreditation Survey Visit to eight programs of the IFSU.
Surveyed at IFSU Main Campus here by at least 20 accreditors from various state colleges and universities of the Philippines are: AB Political Science and Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
At the IFSU Potia Campus, programs surveyed are Bachelor of Hotel and Restaurant Management– for level 1;• Bachelor of Science in Information Technology– for level 1;• Bachelor of Science in Agriculture – for level 2; Master of Arts in Teaching; Master of Arts in Education and Bachelor of Science in Forestry.
Ngohayon confirmed that the eight programs passed the standards for the accreditation levels.
Meanwhile, Ngohayon explained that Normative Funding (NF) is adopted in the allocation of funds to SUCs which started in 2005. NF refers to the application of a set of prescribed objective criteria and norms that are designed to promote and reward quality instruction, research and extension services as well as financial prudence and responsibility.
The allocation process takes into consideration the allotment class that is personal services, maintenance and other operating expenditures and capital outlays and the trifocal function of SUCs that is instruction, research and extension service. (JDP/VDB- PIA CAR-Ifugao)
